DOE NJ Regional Middle School Science Bowl When: Saturday, April 12, 2008 Where: Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory US Route 1 North, James Forrestal Campus Princeton, NJ 08543-0451 Who: Teams of a coach and five middle school students (four members and an alternate) in grades 6 – 8 from schools and home schools. What: There are two competitions at the National Middle School Science Bowl - an academic math and science competition and a model fuel cell car competition. The academic competition is a fast-paced question-and-answer contest where students answer questions about earth science, physical science, life science, math, and general science. The model fuel cell car competition challenges students to design, build, and race model cars. TEAMS MUST COMPETE IN BOTH COMPETITIONS. Why: There are many benefits to participating. DOE believes this activity will help provide a technically trained and diverse work force for the nation and enhance American scientific and technical literacy, especially in energy, the environment and the impact of science on the economy. Awards: Top team from each regional wins an expense paid trip to the national competition in Denver, CO. Trophies will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, place teams. To Enter: There is NO team registration fee. Sixteen teams will be chosen, based on the order that forms are received. Email confirmation will be will be sent to registered schools in mid-January.
